Amazon Web Services - plug & play?
September 17, 2007
It seems like hosting services are destined to change - at least, that was my first though when I visited a website of this company - RightScale.com provides a custom user interface / middle-layer for Amazon Web Services (AWS) making it extremly simple for everyone to setup & manage up to 1000 servers on AWS. Universal panacea for scaling headache? Hard to believe - but could be…
If only there wouldn’t be that “catch 22” with AWS… hmm…
Zakupomat? Interesting business model
September 14, 2007
Our partnering offshore development company in Poland, KreoLabs.com, have just announced release of their new project called “zakupomat”. Zakupomat.pl is a price comparison engine which they have just launched in Poland (currently in beta version). The interesting part of the story is that the project is designed not just as “polish price comparison engine site” but rather as “comparison engine software”.
The business idea behind zakupomat is to create a high-quality price comparison engine (mind the “engine” word - NOT “website”) and sell it to business partners and clients across whole world. Ever wanted to launch your own pricerunner? This might be your chance. The company is claiming to offer both exclusive software license as well as franchising deals incl. complete system manuals etc. so that it will be possible to start fully functional price comparison site for specific market niche or country just by providing product feeds & content - the development side of the business is covered by the zakupomat engine / deal.
At the moment it seems like zakupomat it launching only in Poland (its beta version after all), but the business idea (franchising, licensing) sounds quite clever, and I wonder if it might succeed eventually - targeting e.g. niche and/or developing markets like whole eastern & central Europe instead of UK & western countries where competition with sites like pricerunner or shopping.com would be inevitable…
